Translation of Denaerde interview part 2

(I = Interviewer, D = Denaerde, R = Rudolf Das - the illustrator)
Scene: Picture of Jargan face. Denaerde is telling.

D: Clothes on Jarga have a different function and meaning than for us.
For us it symbolizes status, importance, being seen. On Jarga this is all different, but most essential is that it has no covering function.
Temperature differences are less than here so clothes do not have an isolating function as for us.
I: Do they know shame?
D: Not to my feeling. As described in the book, there was a beach scene, which in fact came down to the description of a nudist camp. They did wear beach clothes, but not with a covering function. I called it 'anti-clothes'.
It was a wild pattern of textile figures, that did not have a covering function, but more an esthetic function.
I: Could have been made by Courreges or Dior? Did it have a function of attraction?
D: Attraction, yes, you could say that. It had an erotic stimulating function.
I: Erotics, did that differ from ours?
D: Yes, I believe so. You can say that the word 'love' had a totally different meaning than for us. Love between one man and one woman is rejected there.
Temporary maybe, but variation is needed. There must be a possibility for growth by means of many different human contacts, and they consider the bonding of two people 'for ever and ever' undesirable, also considering their social structure and living in the cylinder cities.
I: How did these people live on Jarga?
D: Totally different than we do. First this is caused by a different culture and family structure. There is no comparison between Jarga and Earth at this point.
They lived in huge living units. From the outside these looked like big glass cylinders, with a diameter of more than 300 meters and a height of more than 100 meters, with a big dome roof, enclosing a garden, which was separated from the outside air - a consequence of the climate conditions.
In one such a unit there live about 10,000 people.
I: In flats?
D: No, there was a commune like structure. They live together in groups of 20 to 25 persons.
I: Was that a family?
D: No family, it was a group of 6 to 7 couples, with a number of children.
But it was quite divers: it could be a group of elderly people without children, it could also be a group of younger couples with more children.
Freedom is one of the first features that you notice there.
The homes are so efficient end equipped with advanced technical devices (possible because the units are so big) that housekeeping is obsolete.
Hard to understand..
I: Dish washing?
D: No dish washing, they do not cook. They use prepared meals, which comes from freezer like devices which they put into an oven and then they sit together at the table eat.
I: How do the Jargans regard us? Do they view us as bunch of amateurs that have not come very far yet?
D; That is clearly described in the book. They do not view us as a bunch of amateurs. They acknowledge that humans are at an earlier evolutionary phase than they are. They do consider us immature and as a race that attempts to get mature. It is not so that they mock with us.
But they do warn us seriously, the book contains a serious warning.
For example the destruction of humanity by an nuclear conflict would not only mean a material destruction of human life, but also (a destruction) of immortal human existence. That is hard to understand.
I: Could you explain it by means of an example?
D: You could say that our soul is bound to the living generation of people.
If the living generation of people vanishes, if the human evolution has been halted, if creativity stops, at that moment all previous creativity (our soul is an exponent of creativity) has been stopped. The bible calls it 'being cast into eternal doom'

Scene: at Rudolf Das home, looking at the drawing board. We hear the voice of Rudolf Das:
R: What strikes most, is the uniformity of all those living cylinders that are drawn here.
I: Very democratic, is it not.
R: Well you could say terribly non discriminating in our eyes.
It looks like these things can turn.
I: The units with 10s of thousands of people?
R: They are extended floating, because of the heavy earth quakes that are there, and probably can turn around their axis several times - the exact number is not known. Firstly to give every occupant the same view - again non discriminating.
Secondly to allow the sunlight into the central garden, there is an opening in the living wall surrounding it. And thirdly to create a habitat that is earthquake free.
I: How many people live in that area?
R: Millions, because every circle that is drawn here is a living ring (enclosing the common garden) that houses 10,000 people. The distance that is drawn here is 6 times 3.5 kilometers. A width of 3.5 kilometers and a length of 6 kilometers, estimated. These living rings lie in a recreational area, and the enclosing land  is just enough farmland to feed all the surrounding inhabitants.
A similar way of living applied to the Netherlands could house 20 to 22 times the number of people that live here now. 22 times 12 million, that is incredible.

Scene: Denaerde and interviewer on the shore.
I: Plants, flora, does that differ much from ours?
R: Not so much. I would say that the differences are less than you would have expected by using phantasy. Together with Rudolf Das I have shown it in the illustrations. You van say that the plants are built to resist higher wind forces, that is the main difference. There are no high trees, the trunks are developed wider, and they have curious ring shaped trees that stand in a circle, as can be seen in the illustrations. Everything has been built for heavier wind forces, heavier conditions, like the Jargans are built heavier, much more muscular than us. The environment reflects that.
I: How do they travel?
D: Totally different than we do. We move on wheels or on wings, but the Jargans move by means of pole shoes in hollow magnetic rails.
They have an amazing transportation system, a system that does not suffer from wear. There is a system of rails and they have vehicles that do resemble our trains a bit. But their cars have 2 functions. They have a piece of road from the living cylinder to the main traffic vain, and they use small wheels for that. As soon as they arrive at the rail systems they climb up and then hang on pole shoes at the roof (of the car).
When they turn into rail vehicles, they become free of wear.
I: But what propels them?
D: Electricity to generate the magnetic fields, but they control magnetism different from us. They can induce magnetism without wires and coils etcetera.
I: Do they have air planes?
D: No, Jarga does not know air planes.

Scence: at Rudolf Das place.(the artist/drawer)
I: Could Denaerde have made it all up?
R: No, I do not believe that. It seems rather difficult.
Considering these vehicles, he could have invented those being a director in an automotive company. But the rest: the social, religious, sexual, cosmographical, geographical things? No, that is too much for one human.
That is what gave me the creeps when I looked deeper into it.
The rail-system, the universal transport system on that planet is striking.
I've gone trough the trouble to calculate it - BTW I calculated everything he mentions. This rail system, taking into account breaking, stopping and detaching can transport 1,364,000 persons per hour.
In other words, in 10 hours time one such a transport line could evacuate all Dutch people. That is crazy, it is an efficiency that defies our thoughts. And then you realize that we are amateurs in a technical sence.
That is another creep, we are only at the start of a technical revolution that we might see in the future. But we have seen the future.
I: In a fata-morgana, maybe?
R: Yes, or a hallucination, or whatever. It is weird.

Scene: Denaerde and the interviewer on the shore.
I: It all started here. One question remains: did it happen what is described in the book or not? I won't ask Stefan Denaerde, because to him this question does not exist, he says in his book.
If it exists for us?...
